The scourge of the Selukkite deserts, Khavei zur-Majren seems so travel at will, materializing suddenly from a sandstorm riding upon his pale horse, taking what he pleases, and then disappearing as silently and swiftly as he came. Told of in a hundred tales, few are truly certain which ones bear falsehoods. Is he the son of a dragon come to steal the throne? Does he have a harem of women he has kidnapped over the ages? Can he really shoot blindfolded while riding backwards on a galloping horse? Did he really steal from the chambers of Raviyna av-Kulthanz herself? Does he slit the throats of his enemies and bathe in their boiled blood?
Like any living legend, the infamous Sand Phantom can actually do much of what the stories attribute to him. He could ride before he could walk, and knows the workings of the sword so well that many people wonder if he might not be human at all. Not much is known about his origins, or even his true age, but it is likely that he was born in the region of Nandar, for his riding skills are exceptional. Some stories state him to be a powerful sorcerer, others that he stole an artifact from the temple of Sav-Synav that allowed him to begin his raids; still others believe him to have made a pact with the mysterious Jovnhast for his power. In battle, Khavei zur-Majren presents an image both hypnotic and terrifying. Even before the murder of Vizier Narras nav-Thraquell in 7C-328, his intensity and fierce demeanor were legendary. His well-muscled body is a hairless, strange amalgam of sun-scorched tans, sand-worn sinewy muscle, and fantastic tattoos. He is for many the embodiment of evil upon the desert, a serpent whose strike is swift and deadly.
