  • “Son, the world is not a fair place. No amount of idealism will ever make it friendly towards you. You cannot game the system to sit at the top until you accept that this is the system.”

Born to an Itheri Naval Officer and a Daggerlander mother from Sablemarch, he joined Crestwright Academy in 7C-252 at the age of thirteen, where he took advantage of the school’s library resources to learn as much as he could. By 7C-257, Ventus had gained a reputation for making profit as he learned to game the traders who came to market. Fellow officers would invest in his fund, and he would return to them with great dividends. Not satisfied with his position, he was expelled from the navy in 7C-259 when he attempted to consolidate power through manipulation of his senior officers. Branded a criminal by his expulsion, he retreated into the criminal underworld where he would have remained had it not been for the War of Eventide.

It was 7C-263, when he was forced to flee from sewers during the Battle of Calastore, that Ventus was brought back into the world . His mix of ambition, moneymaking ability, and desire for knowledge resurfaced as he witnessed the war’s conclusion, and hid among the retreating Alor survivors. He took up the surname Windwalker, and attempted to start a new life in Methes Avonthes' shipyards, working his way up the rankings within a few months. It was he who served as helmsman aboard Oriane Nicodon's ship to Halion, and he who heard the decree of the city's “no questions” rules, seeing the potential of an army of merchants, mercenaries, and small-time crooks at his disposal. Immediately, he applied to take on the role of dockmaster, overseeing the repairs and reconstruction, offering his own insights towards the project. It was a position that would necessitate a minor touch of the unethical, knowing when he could afford to levy an extra percentile of tax, or shave off a merchant's profits to benefit himself.

Corruption aside, Ventus is a skilled dockmaster; if there is a problem, he is right there, solving it. If there is something that needs to be acquired, he knows a way. Utilizing his training from Crestwright Academy, he mimics military methods to crush dissent while controlling the flow of goods and services. His charisma may have helped to win over some new friends, but it was his access to resources that attracted a majority of them. Every serious businessman on the island knows it to be in their best interest to be in Windwalker's good books, for he is the one that distributes goods and opens access to markets. The companies follow this line of thinking, and Ventus knows it.
