  • In the world of A'therys, there is a place where time does not run in the predictable fashion. Cyclically, reversed, even sideways; Limnas Von has seen fit to wrest time from its forward march deep in the caves of Syrthavon. The cavern seems to draw in adventurers who pass near, beckoning them to what lies within. On any given day, what lies within the cavern may change, both in space and time.

The cave came into being sometime during the Age of Balance, though the nature of the place makes the time of its appearance irrelevant. What is known is that adventurers who wander too far into the cavern sometimes disappear, seemingly whisked away by an unknown force. The cavern itself appears to be truly ancient, with pools of water collecting on the floor beneath the large stalactites that dot the ceiling. Of central focus in the cave is an enormous hourglass-like structure, towering above the floor of the cavern. Though the glass is mostly shattered, the sand within it remains suspended, neither flowing out nor continuing to trickle into the base. Aside from this great hourglass, the cave would appear as any other, if not for the enormous metal gears buried in every surface of the rock. Covered in vines and rust, they do not appear to have ever moved or connected to anything at all. The great unruly mechanism seems to have no form or function, deposited as the cave was created in the unknown past.

Whatever Syrthavon represents, its connection to Limnas Von is undeniable. The Loghec priests who discovered it deep in the jungles of Roreg Logh recognized this and named it for him. To this day, the priests still tend to the cave, keeping the marking cauldrons alight and the pathways free of falling rock. The arcane nature of the cave has attracted scholars A'therys over, especially an attachment from the Arcane College, all attempting to understand the force that steals mortals from the halls of the cave. Most scholars agree that the cave exists in some sort of temporal rift, and some speculate that those who disappear are whisked away to some other time and place. Even now, the mages and priests attempt to harness the powers of the cave for mortal-kind, though they are no closer to discovering the true meaning of the cave's existence.
