Hello Atherys!

Finally a new entry into the diary! So yes we are not dead ;)

Actually we are still making good progress towards getting this server finished. One of the main plugins is now complete and we actually will showcase it soon (more about this later). Our build team is working hard on the capitals and our lore team is pumping out stories and descriptions of our world.

Even our patreon is useful! At this point I want to say THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH to all patreons. You make this so much easier for us!

 

The major plugin that’s done is the Quest plugin, the first of its kind done for sponge! And it’s fantastic, we tried to find things it cannot do and failed miserably (or our imagination wasn’t the best in that meeting). With that done we have now an additional team that is working hard and that’s the Quest Team, not only are they coming up with ideas and Quest layouts, they also will write them in JavaScript. So they too will have a lot do to.

Here I would like to remark that we still are looking for more coders. That and builders are right now the biggest bottlenecks. So if you are interested send us an application!

 

This Saturday (the 8th of Sept, at 22:30 UTC) we will be part of the sponge anniversary livestream event. On that event we will showcase the first capital and the quest plugin. So join the stream and enjoy! For our patreons we actually will have something a bit more special, but they will be informed via the patreon discord channel (so look out for that too).

 

While map wise we were done with the terrain etc. We had one major thing missing and that was large plants and assets (trees, rocks and such). This has now been rectified and you can expect to see a lot more landscape shots. There I suggest to either (if you are one) check the patreon channel or to keep an eye on our twitter feed.

 

I know this is just a small update but I did want to tell you that we still have a lot of people working on this fantastic project. And more will come soon!

Its really nice to have some confirmation that things are going well. Good luck with all the work! (Also fyi this topic doesnt show up in the main portal.)

Oh don't worry. PVP will be a big part of Atherys. I want to go a bit further with the plugin for classes and then i will post a dev diary just about PVP :D

Adding to this; development team is presently at only two active coders who both have full time jobs otherwise.

@MisChiv and @Brady1233 if either of you either have the ability to learn java / sponge codebase and want to apply such skills; there might be more progress updates as well. Or if you know any developers looking to work with the team and recommend them our way.

.....Or just keep complaining when an update isn't something you are interested in, but is still important to the development of the server and see how little we care about things not going your way because you've put no effort into the project.

I didn't mean to cause a fuss, simply wanted to mess with chiv. My apologies. I know you guys are hard at work! Keep it up!

I question priority for development. Why would questing come before anything else? Shouldn't the way quests work and the quests themselves be based around the core mechanics of the game (classes and the map)? One can't possibly design quests for a game that has no fundamental mechanics even roughly implemented. Also, you say the quest plugin is done, but why not share more about it? Do we quest for XP? Items? Both? Is there going to be a reason to do quests after hitting max level and obtaining a plethora of items (easy to accomplish in minecraft)? I'm surprised I'm the first person here to comment on the vagueness.

Quest systems do not vary that much from game to game. Dialog between players and NPCs does not change based on core mechanics, nor do basic quest objectives. It is easy to add support for other plugins and mechanics once there is a base down. You are always welcome to see our progress over at the GitHub repo. The actual quests have not been started on. We sometimes bounce between plugins if we tire of working on one for a long time.

      To honor the past versions of our amazing server and its legacy, we are returning the world of A'therys Ascended to your pleasure once more! Thanks to the tireless work of our beloved admin @Dannie, he has managed to pull my old build server from the depths of Minecraft limbo.

       V1 Calastore

      Whilst many of you use to use my build server, this will give you a chance to revisit your old builds on there. However beyond that, we have also restored the other worlds on there, including the A'therys v1 and v2 worlds. But to push the goal even further, we have also managed to bring back the A'therys Evo world. 


      v2/ Evo Vrovona (Capital)

      Unfortunately you cannot play on the world as we did once before. All of our main resources are committed to delivering A'therys Horizons. However, in the mean time, why not take a trip down memory lane? Or even better, introduce our new and upcoming friends to the world you once knew. 


      As we look beyond the Horizon, to a world we all do not know and adventures that await, we can treasure the past and the legacy of A'therys Ascended.


      v1 Qhul-Rahav

      You can connect to the server via the Conquest Reforged client OR with vanilla Minecraft 1.12.2. You can get to this server by running the command /server old. To get permissions just ask any fellow staff member, as the server is running off my original A'therys Evo build server set up with PermissionsEX.       So with the website returning to it's dark theme, we've made a bunch of improvements to the lorelanding!

      Added a MAP to the lorelanding!


      This map (see below for all 5 playable nations lit up) will light up a nation when you hover over it; and allow you to click into it to go to the nation's overview page!
