hey so like why not publish the staff meeting post?

Guest asking the real questions

why does it have to be a secret? There can't actually be any kind of secrets going on when it comes to developing that would worsen the experience for the players if we knew what was going on. Are you guys afraid to reveal how much progress has/hasn't been made? I feel like transparency here is the better tactic, this way instead of having to keep track of the last time someone asked about horizons in discord, they can just see the most recent progress for themselves.

We've always treated meeting notes as confidential because a lot of things are discussed at meetings, including ideas which are purely hypothetical, needing further research, and which ultimately may not be possible. The community might get the wrong impression with us publishing these notes, as if we're promising something in there.

Really what it just boils down to is, we don't want to be held accountable for what gets said in these meetings.

I understand where you’re coming from. Previous administration of this server often over promised and left the server population dissatisfied when the developers couldn’t hold to their promises. You don’t want to get caught in that same trap, I think that’s smart. However, I feel as if the current administration has gone to the opposite extreme. A lack of communication of plans and progress leads to a rift between the community and the administration just as much as overpromising on development does. As the administration of the server it’s up to you to find the happy medium between a lack of communication of ideas and progress and too much communication of ideas. This middle ground allows you to show the community the progress you’re making while also allowing them to understand that everything you’re doing takes hard work and dedication and doesn’t happen overnight. In this context you’ve got a silent population of people eagerly awaiting to see signs of life spring up from this server and if you want to keep that population, I think it’d be a great idea to give them a taste of your progress in order for them to see your work and react to it how they please. You can’t control everyone’s reaction and you’re always going to have people oppose you, but you can’t be so afraid of failing to deliver that you paralyze yourself as an administration into non communication with the player base. Good luck, hope you find some nuggets of helpful info here, gonna go back to sarcastically quoting the old members of the community now.

Hi there!

So, yeah meeting notes won't be publishes for the reasons head mentioned. In the end it would do more harm than help.

But i get where you are coming from with updating the Community. The main problem is that for example we work on some bigger things at the moment that take a lot of time and you can't really give updates on that without sounding the same every time. Like for example building the capital. For sure i can tell you each week how many buildings were added, but in the end it would be a wholly underwhelming post.

Right now we are in that part of development where, while still lots of work is done, its not really much one can talk about without sounding repetitive (more work has been done on the plugins, the capitals are getting build etc. etc.). And yes, it goes slower than we all would wish, mostly a question of manpower to be honest.

All that said, i will start posting diary's again biweekly, even if sometimes they may lack substance and be a little bit repetitive (but i will try to minimize that as much as possible).

Thanks for you interest and input :)

I agree that most of it should be held in confidentiality. Even though it would be nice to hear or see some semblance of forward progression its inevitable that some things may not work out or may not be in favor of the hardware server. Having played a TON of modded minecraft recently I can tell you that alot of features dont always pan out the way they were intended to. Especially now that this server in particular is on Sponge, there are even more roadblocks to be overcome.

Yeah I totally get that, when I was on the heroes team we ran into incompatibility issues all the time so I know how that goes. Even if you can’t give people significant change logs, it’s good to stay out in front of a community as an owner/dev team and maybe show them something small or large you’re working on. It’ll build up a trust and bond with your community that you can’t get otherwise.

I could start putting out some kind of dev log, though most of it would be jargon. Recently I've been working on the documentation for quest scripting: https://atherys.com/docs.

Edit: As well as keeping a VS Code extension updated: https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=AtherysHorizons.atheryscode

I have to say, your post was very informative. I really do appreciate what you wrote, and have no complaints. So thank you.

I'd say this thread can be locked.

      Hello everyone, new and old!

As you may or may not have heard, we have brought back a functional build of A'therys Evo onto the server. We've noticed that a lot of people have been wanting a taste of the A'therys experience and having a place in-game to relive some of your favourite memories will go a long way towards achieving that.

So with the website returning to it's dark theme, we've made a bunch of improvements to the lorelanding!

Added a MAP to the lorelanding!

This map (see below for all 5 playable nations lit up) will light up a nation when you hover over it; and allow you to click into it to go to the nation's overview page!
