  • One of the oldest standing fortresses in Aloreh, Baile Caislean is the nation's proud gateway to the Marcolo Sea. It serves as a primary supply harbor to along the Marouis Coast, making it one of the most important ports in western Aloreh. During its construction, the stonemasons painstakingly chipped out its foundation atop a rugged cliff, then carved a narrow road leading up to the first of its many gates. Because of the surrounding terrain's peculiar triangular arrangement, the only practical methods of seizing the fortress are either through an amphibious assault along the ocean to scale the cliffs, or a harsh trudge up the narrow mountain paths. Invaders who brave either path find themselves forced to assault one door after another while dealing with archers, burning oil, dropping portcullis, and treacherous murder holes.

Baile Caislean's port is quite elaborate, hosting separate facilities for naval warships (toward the mouth of the harbor) and merchant vessels (toward the interior). Local pilots must carefully navigate the mouth of the harbor due to its narrow draught channel, which allows only two ships abreast at once. The channel has been designed specifically to appear deeper than it is, to snare ships piloted by pirates and others who would do the port ill. The Itheri, well aware of this through their own naval contacts, decided to seize the city by land during the War of Eventide, a previously unprecedented tactic. Its sixty-man force stood for almost a week against an invading army of hundreds before it finally fell to the conquerors. A year after the Eventide's conclusion, Erassios Shroudbearer commissioned a memorial to the men who fell in the fortress' defense and left an honor guard to protect the place.
