"One's standing is part of one's name. You are born with it, you will die with it, and even if you change station up or down, it is still a part of you. Ignoring that in someone is the most uncouth possible thing imaginable."
- Orinna nav-Redhas
The Selukkite castes can trace their origins to the Rannek-zur-Ranne'eth, who brought with them the naming conventions of the Horlean Isles. At the conclusion of Anur yav-Qar'ren, the wandering tribes of both the Rannek and Tamat Olrun came together under the rule of Sav-Synav. There are some two-hundred known sub-castes and subtle pronunciation differences based on specific station, ranking, and business. Listed below are the most commonly known ones among outsiders.
av- royalty / ruler
nav- courtier / prince
yav- patron (usually of the arts)
zur- outcast / outlaw
nyr- Horlean* (likely meant "steward / shepherd")
dyn- Horlean* (likely meant "warrior")
al- Horlean* (likely referred to adherents and religious men)
bynt- Horlean* (likely meant "hunter", though the term is used broadly)
*Names denoted as Horlean are historic castes that have fallen out of modern use.
