  1. Hear ye, hear ye! This weekend only! A once in a lifetime experience, only here on A'therys! Hello everybody, new and old. Today we have a very special announcement to make - one which offers you the unique chance to get a sneak preview of one of Horizon's upcoming cities! This weekend only, from (SELLT PUT IN A DATE HERE) to (SELLT PUT IN ANOTHER DATE HERE OTHERWISE WE WILL LOOK SILLY), we will be opening up the capital city of Seten-Nan on our servers for you to explore. Feel free to log in and walk around, take in the sights and sounds of the nation of Dalkun-Tir, and experience life as a caravan-dweller. From the towering monumentality of the bazaar to the roaring shoreline of the river, Seten-Nan will surely thrill and excite you! In addition to seeing what the build team is capable of, we will be testing out our custom built Quests plugin on you, our ever-faithful guinea pigs. Talk to the interesting citizens of the city and see what you can do for them! We will be opening up feedback forms (basically this topic) for you to provide us with bug reports and hopefully some praise too. Once this event ends, we will be deporting all stragglers and development will will resume behind closed doors, like Willy Wonka's factory after a health inspection.   3. Hello Atherys! Today I shall write a bit on how the 5 Governments will work in Horizons. As you will see below they all have their unique spins and will hopefully appeal to a broad spectrum of players. What all Governments will have in common are their rights and responsibilities, one of which will be the assignment of towns and the distribution of town plots. (Unlike previous iterations of A’therys towns will be measured in Square Blocks, rather than restricted to plots of 16 x 16. More to come on that in the upcoming Town Plugin Diary.) In addition to rewarding town plots for set achievements and checkpoints, the assigning of plots may also be used as a system of rewards at the nation head’s discretion. While there is a risk of abuse, Staff will naturally step in if abuse goes too far; in addition to player-based means for removal of a nation head they feel is not properly doing their job. The Government will also have access to a currency called Argents that the Nation earns mainly through Shattered-Land Conquest. They will be able to buy special items, including necessary blocks for Airships (this is still a WIP) that they can distribute. With a few more unnamed possibilities the Government will actually have means to project their power, instead of being only a means of roleplay. Below I talk about the different Nations and how their Government works in Lore and in Mechanic. Daidama Daidama is ruled by an Emperor which has absolute power. Thanks to our RP Plugin where it allows people to use nicknames, the elected Leader of Daidama will assume the role of this Emperor. They will, when being the Leader, act as this person, and if someone else becomes NH of Daidama they take over the same role. This does not prevent you from assigning your actual RP character a high ranking government position in case you want to RP as your normal character. Mechanic wise the NH will be elected by staff after reviewing applications (as we did in the end of Ascended). With the nickname switching it makes this easy and you don’t need to login on another account or have an NPC that is actually higher in the hierarchy than the player NH. (To compare to previous iterations; it would be as if we allowed the character Raviyna to be played by the player; rather than assigning them to Vizier each time) Dalkun-Tir The NH will be the Outrider, a person selected by a God to lead the Nation. Of course no one is perfect, not even the Gods and so if the Outrider turns out bad the people can call upon their God (Mechanic: Staff) and send him prayers and he will judge the Outrider, either get him to become better or to get rid of him and elect a new one. Now the whole prayer thing will be a simple mechanic where we as staff will collect books with complaints (or compliments) in the span of a week or so and if something substantial (several people complaining about the same thing, to prevent “I heard he said”) we will talk to the NH. If it’s not correctable, we will kick him out. New Nation Head applicants will be screened, and placed under a series of trials (physical and mental). Atvoria Atvoira is led by a council of the Guild representatives. This means the government has 12 player positions and 1 Staff (the Staff is only there to break ties. Nothing else). The person with the NH permissions will be the Guild Premier of the Law Guild, and is basically the only position that must be filled. The other seats will be filled by the respective guilds. Any player can pledge his allegiance to any guild and these members can then select their representative (think of guilds as political parties). Klinholdt Welcome to the biggest Government mess, ever. Approximately every 30 - 60 days, anyone who wants to become NH can challenge the current NH, they can raise an army and all of these armies will battle it out in the Capital. The last one standing becomes NH. We expect this to be a chaotic nation, so please be aware of this before choosing to join (of course you can always stay out of politics). Gennaian Isles There are eight kingdoms in the Isles; seven of them are ruled by a King/Queen (usually the mayor of that islands town). The eighth kingdom and capital, Falkynthos; is ruled by the High King, elected by the other Seven (they may submit any name, even a peasant if they so wish). Pretty straightforward. So this is it in its basic form. Each NH can of course establish government branches to share some of the responsibilities that the NH now has. Additionally, becoming NH will add that event to your personal timeline that will be displayed on your Forum profile (if you have linked it to your in-game account). And if nothing really bad happened it will become part of canon (in case of Daidama this will instead reflect the actions of the roleplay Mask, however your own character may still be noted as an important official during the timeline). Also good to know is that when we start all these positions will be initially filled by staff to make it easier. But we plan to get players into it as soon as possible afterwards.
  4. Hello Atherys! Finally a new entry into the diary! So yes we are not dead Actually we are still making good progress towards getting this server finished. One of the main plugins is now complete and we actually will showcase it soon (more about this later). Our build team is working hard on the capitals and our lore team is pumping out stories and descriptions of our world. Even our patreon is useful! At this point I want to say THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH to all patreons. You make this so much easier for us! The major plugin that’s done is the Quest plugin, the first of its kind done for sponge! And it’s fantastic, we tried to find things it cannot do and failed miserably (or our imagination wasn’t the best in that meeting). With that done we have now an additional team that is working hard and that’s the Quest Team, not only are they coming up with ideas and Quest layouts, they also will write them in JavaScript. So they too will have a lot do to. Here I would like to remark that we still are looking for more coders. That and builders are right now the biggest bottlenecks. So if you are interested send us an application! This Saturday (the 8th of Sept, at 22:30 UTC) we will be part of the sponge anniversary livestream event. On that event we will showcase the first capital and the quest plugin. So join the stream and enjoy! For our patreons we actually will have something a bit more special, but they will be informed via the patreon discord channel (so look out for that too). While map wise we were done with the terrain etc. We had one major thing missing and that was large plants and assets (trees, rocks and such). This has now been rectified and you can expect to see a lot more landscape shots. There I suggest to either (if you are one) check the patreon channel or to keep an eye on our twitter feed.   5. Hello A'therys! It has been some time since we've updated you on what has been going on in the development of A'therys. Fear not, that doesn't mean that we've slowed down - it means the opposite. A number of things have been done these past few weeks from coding to building. Our custom quest plugin is being developed and will offer us some fun opportunities to let you interact with the world and learn about the new nations. Speaking of new nations, work on the capitals continues with Seten-Nan, capital of the harsh and desolate Dalkun-Tir. Our Lore Team is also still working on some of the finer details of the nations, and as such if you are interested in forming parts of the nation of your choice, maybe hit the lore team up in discord and start a friendly talk! Maybe your ideas will end up in the game! Additionally I thought maybe I should write a bit about what I personally was working on and what will give you a bit more insight into the nations, the map and what kind of terrain you may expect to find. You probably already know that the Gennaian Isles are, surprise, Islands. Imagine Mediterranean islands and you got a pretty good picture of them. Further to the east one will find Daidama, with an icy north, stony highlands and further down jungles and a region inspired by the Tianzi Mountains of China. South of Daidama we get to a dryer region, Dalkun-Tir. A nation filled with Savanna, Mesa land (inspired by Monument Valley), Canyon and a smaller Desert (far smaller than Ar-Selukk’s Desert). Both Nations, Daidama and Dalkun-Tir share the same river (which also connects the capitals) and which will be around 6.5km long. So look forward to some epic boat races! Even further down we find Atvoria, a land shaped by magical stories. The epitome of the default fantasy land we all know from somewhere. Included are a swamp like region, mountains, large grassy plains, sharp rock formations and even a mushroom forest with flying rocks. A bit apart from these nations to the south west we get Kilnholdt. While parts of it are inspired by Scotland we also get a huge terraced Mountain region on the main island that, in my opinion at least, looks stunning. Coming from the lowlands to the road up to the capital will be a wonderful sight. Additionally the cave system has been slightly changed from evo to get a more epic feeling, deeper caves, some bigger ones that would be big enough to hold w whole town and even underground rivers.   6. Hi Everyone, Today, as promised we talk about armor and weapons and what we want to do with them skin wise. So first an overview of the tiers and materials: Armor Tier 1 Tier 2 Tier 3 Light Hide Leather Aramid Medium Chainmail Scale Lamellar Heavy Plate Crystaline Argentate Weapons List of the Weapons: Dagger Sword Axe Mace Polarm Staff Throwing Weapons (axes, knifes etc) Crossbow Bow All Weapons have the following tiers: Tier 1: Wood Tier 1.5: Bronze Tier 2: Iron Tier 2.5: Steel Tier 3: Crystaline Tier 3.5: Argentate Requirements for making skin packs We need skin packs that include all armor but not technically all weapons. For weapons you can combine tier 1 and 1.5, 2 and 2.5, 3 and 3.5 into each one skin for the pack (of course if you want to differentiate even the half levels you are welcome to it. That means a normal skin pack has skins for the following: Each Armor type, in total 9 Each half weapon level type, in total 27 (if you want to make unique ones for the full levels too: 54) Fun / RP packs can include only skins for basic armor/Weapons. Clothing for jobs, or costumes (Halloween). Also, a sword doesn't need to look like a normal sword. It only needs to use the same damage type (example: it can look like a Katana, rapier, etc. all using slashing damage). The same goes for the other weapon types. Some packs don't even need to entirely adhere to the listed material, for example a "nature" pack can have a bone-sword with inlaid diamonds as the tier 3.5 weapon. Which packs do we absolutely need: A default one for all types of weapons included. One pack for each nation (national armor and weapons) besides these, we take all (that look somewhat good) and if fitting will be in game earn-able or via the store. You can also make, for example, an RP pack, where armor looks like the clothing of different jobs and the weapons like their jobs tools.   7. Hello Atherys! Man, after weeks and weeks of just working on what we already told you i thought its time to give you a small update. Coding is still underway, further along than we ever where. We got the combat system sorted out and its now put into code. Got more artists on board for lore and items. We now use the main server as our development server where head, dannie, dev members etc are working as much as they can to finish all. Now the most important thing for this diary, sadly, through some time issues with the map and no work for our builders we lost a lot of them. But now we are at a point where we actually need builders to work on national buildings. So if you can build please apply and we can put you to work immediately!   8. Hi Atherys! RP-PVP I was contacted by some pure RPers that brought up a concern about how to handle RP fights between 2 people (1v1) in a non-combat zone (Capital or no-pvp towns or other zones). And so I am interested to see if there are actually enough people with the same concern that would like to play on Horizons. The basic idea would be to have an established system for RP-PVP for 1v1 situation which would be totally optional (so both players would need to agree to use it) and it wouldn’t be enforced by staff (would be just too much drama). To make this clear and simple: 100% optional, non-enforced RP-PVP System. Only benefit would be that people who want to use such a system don’t need to come up with it for themselves on the spot and just can use this system. AtherysTown Last Staff-Meeting the team got a chance to experience Headhunters Town plugin and wow, it’s just great. It’s a lot sleeker than towny (none of that stuff we never used) and got a few more features that really add to the convenience of using it. I don’t want to go into much details at the moment (still some work to do) but you will get a bigger article about how our new town plugin will work soon. Quests Our Quest-team has now been formed and are starting to develop the story lines which you will be able to explore. We have also selected a mod for the quests plus some additional stuff (NPC’s mainly) to be able to give you immersive and fun quests. And if you have a great story laying around that would make a good Quest send it to @Dani. Maybe the Quest-team can use it! AtherysMods We still work on a mount mod for Horizons but ran into some problems (mostly me personally :D). So maybe one of the readers here has experience with mod compiling for forge.   9. Hello Atherys! Welcome to my next Diary entry! Website First I want to tell you that In case you didn’t hear. We moved our website to a new hoster (mykinghost.com) because on the one we had we were very limited in diskspace which lead to crashes and other problems, which we now don’t have anymore! We are still tweaking the performance but it should already be more stable. If you find bugs please report them to us and we will take care of them ASAP. Talking about Website. We have a person that is making a new Theme for our Forum Software which should be a lot closer to an RPG feeling than the current one. Which most likely will be introduced with the release of Horizons. Overall Progress Right now the different teams are working on their stuff. Head is working on our own Town plugin (making it perform a lot better than Towny!). PvP Team is refining the pvp/skillsystem concept, the buildteam is working on the capital styles and on some dungeons (for current version and for Horizons) and the mapmaker is working on all the flora for the different nation biomes (including some cool glowing crystals). So right now all is proceeding at a normal pace and it’s mostly grunt work. But I think next week I can show you some cool stuff! The Artists We now got a new team lead by @Altairas which is working on pixelart for new weapons and armor. This will be used for higher tiers of gear but also as skins you can buy in the store then (only skin. Stats will not be influenced), staying in line with my promise that we will only sell cosmetics to finance the server. If you are a great artist (pixelart) don’t hesitate and contact Altairas. I’m sure we can use some more help there. More People We can always use more help in any form, but right now it seems that most of the teams have a good amount of people in it, only one group could really use reinforcement: Coders.   10. Hello A'therys! Yesterday we had the Sellt Chat where I introduced what will happen with A'therys and where we are going. In two words: A'therys Horizons Yes, we are working on a new A'therys, it wont just be another iteration with small changes, it will be basically a new game. First, the bad things that will happen: All player data will be wiped, everyone will start new. This means no towns, no money, no exp and nothing that was sold in the Store. Now, the good things and why we have that wipe: Atherys will go modded. For what we want to do we can't stay with just plugins, but need to expand and going modded was the logical step. This also means a switch from spigot to sponge, which means our old plugins will not work anymore (no Towny and no Heroes). But don't fear, @HaedHutner is already working on our own custom town plugin (which incidentally allows us to have a town plugin that doesn't have a tonne of stuff that we do not need and also could possibly slow down the server!). Same will happen with the pvp plugin. Classes and skills will be entirely new, as will be the way you level. Store bought items, including towns, will not be available anymore for real money. All these things you will need to play for in order to obtain them. We will have some things we will sell, however, they will be entirely cosmetic. Towns will be more restricted than it's now. You will need to fulfill some requisites to create a town (how many players join, resources etc). Titles will also not be buyable from the store. You will earn titles through playing which also gives a lot more meaning to a title than it is right now. Map One of the big mods we will have is ConquestReforged which will add over 6000 new blocks. Luckily, we got one of the best ConquestReforged map-makers to make us a custom map and from what i already saw it will be fantastic. Size wise it will be smaller, while the landmass will be about the same, (a lot of ocean has been remove). A big part of the map will be the Adventure Zone (Shattered Lands) and so the actual land where you can build your towns will be about half of what we have now. Nations Another big thing: We are turning the globe and will move to another part of A'therys! You will be able to choose between 5 new nations and explore a sixth one that fell into ruins. The last one also will be the Adventure Zone with mobs, traps, dungeons, quests and an expanded Conquest System (for all the pvpers). The 5 new nations: Gennaian Islands: The Gennaian Islands are a collective of Kingdoms under a single national banner; akin to Ancient Greece. Daidama: Daidama is a ‘paradise’ of walled cities; where crime is swept away by justice, and atonements are swiftly dealt out. Dalkun-Tir: The lands of Dalkun-Tir are lowland scrub and rocky steppes, inhabited by the spurned and exiled; hardened nomads who navigate the harsh landscape. Atvoria: Once ruled by the god Nalageos, Atvoria is a land saturated with glamour due to the dragon Zahatmos’ tampering with fate. As such, the people are involved within a constant story, where superstitions and fables come to life. Harugraun: Rugged terrain of mountains and forests; a land that pioneered gunpowder and rivaled only by the Daggerlands in ingenuity. It is a shame, therefore, that they happen to take five steps back every generation from sheer spite and strife. More Information on the Nations will be forthcoming, including their buildstyles. My (your) Story We heard you and we want to give you more influence on the story of this world. As such, each player will get a profile page on the forum connected to the A'therys server. If you achieve something, (slaying the evil endboss, becoming Nationhead etc), you will get you an entry in your personal timeline and if appropriate in the Nations Timeline (Nationheads, Wars etc). You also will be able to add your own personal entries to your own timeline (only difference will be that the official stuff will have a "official" sign). Depending on all these things and our own ideas the world will also evolve. How far and in which direction, I can't say. Release Date We don't have a deadline. We don't want to do another Evo and actually take the needed time to implement everything we actually planned. Further Information I will resume my weekly diary where I will keep you all up to date. Additionally posts will be made to go into more details of what we are doing, what mods you can expect and what we are planning but didn't mention here (several things, but we need to be a bit further with it before it will be revealed).   13. Hello Atherys! 1.11 So, finally we got 1.11 out! Sever seems a lot more stable, but can’t say for 100% certain until we had a bigger fight. But the timings are better and server starts in about half the time it did in the past. We also tried to run around spaming skills and whatnot and it looked good. Right now the two new animals (polar bears and llamas) are not obtainable but we are about to add them to the Admin store for the same price as horses. Econ Bug Ok, this is a weird one. On the test server this was solved and for the few first days after we upgraded the main server it did work too. But it looks like its back since at least yesterday. The Tech Admins are on it and should have a solution soon. My apologies for the circumstances. Conquest & New Capital Man, I’m looking forward to this weekend. The addition of Conquest AND as its planned atm, the opening of the new Capital. I hope you all can come and have some fun! Nether Island And then its only one more week till we most likely get the nether island with all the new resources. As far as I can see the build team (the same that did the new capital) is working on finishing it and what I saw looks really good. And let this be the first warning: The Nether Island will be deadly. Correction: The overland part is planned for in one week. The Nether part a bit later (more to do there). I was slightly misinformed. Sorry. What comes after I can promise you right now that we will be still around in 1 year (and most likely way beyond that). What that means will be revealed in the next few weeks/months. But don’t worry. We are working on a future for our beloved server. Sellt’s Kitchen Uiuiui… I’m here at work writing this diary entry and I have all my notes and recipes at home. So for this week you will need to survive without a new one. I’m sorry.
