  1. Well there goes all my enthusiasm. Tax systems are why I don't play on other 'town' servers.

I disagree. Minecraft lets you create a character as well as change the world. There aren't many games that do that.

But there are other games like it with better mechanics.

I didn't say pvp takes no skill... Also I think you're missing the point of my posts entirely. I'm not against pvp at all, I just think it is by far the least important aspect of Minecraft. When some people treat Minecraft as their go-to pvp experience it confuses me. Just last night some friends from WoW and I started playing together on a small server of our own. No mods, no plugins, just Vanilla Minecraft. We built houses, a farm, and a mine. I started playing at 8pm and didn't stop until 3am the next morning. That is the most time I've spent playing Minecraft, and the most fun I've had playing it in literally years, and none of it included pvp.

Nothing I said had anything to do with how 'good' you are at pvp. I really don't care what makes a 'good' minecraft pvper. I'm not talking about team fight organization either. I'm specifically talking about one persons perspective while fighting, and how bad it is compared to other games like mount and blade. No amount of 'organization' is going to fix bad mechanics, I don't care what anyone says. And I never said that vanilla pvp was boring. I said that it had terrible mechanics. Also I'm very familiar with Heroes. Atherys is not the only server in existence that used the plugin. Its a good plugin, but it only makes combat bearable. It doesn't fix the underlying issues with minecraft combat. Plus it has its own mechanical issues.

No I haven't PvPed a lot on the server but I've used heroes in the past and while it does make combat a lot better it still doesn't fix the base issue that the controls are just clunky. I disagree that the chaotic nature of the camera and fighting mechanics have anything to do with skill or being organized. It doesn't take a lot of skill to be good at pvp in minecraft. If you have the patience to put up with the jerky camera movement, unreliable hitboxes, clipping, etc. then you're fine. For those of us that prefer more polished mechanics, its a terrible experience. But anyway my point was that Minecraft in general is far from the best game if you're looking for pvp combat. Which, no matter how look at it, is true imo.

Its 'clicky' with no interesting mechanics. No timing attacks right, no parrying, etc. Just click and strafe, repeat. Its very chaotic. If you are in a large fight, its hard to tell who is who because everyone is constantly clipping into eachother and theres so much screen shaking and knock backs. Ugh. Potion and food spamming. Having to quickly open the inventory to move items around quickly because you ran out of potions on your hotbar is so counter intuitive. Consumables should have their own seperate bar or menu or whatever instead of sharing space with building materials and other non-combat items. Same goes for weapons. Weapons and armor are very basic and don't have any positives for using anything other than diamond. You have to manage Hunger as well as health during combat and hunger decays QUICKLY.

Uhh I'm not a roleplayer and I can easily see why someone would use Minecraft to roleplay with. In fact, other than MMOs like WoW, or party-based games like Tabletop Simulator, Minecraft is one of the best online games for roleplaying with other people. Minecraft, even with mods and plugins is terrible for pvp though, which was my point.

This exactly. I enjoy the act of pvp, but some people take it so seriously and make it so competitive that it becomes something separate from other aspects of the server rather than something that blends in and complements them. I don't understand why anyone would want to be a harcore pvper in Minecraft of all games. Combat in Minecraft is so terrible... There are hundreds of other games better suited for it.

I have to somewhat agree with @vehnehdapooh. Except if player-characters become canon in lore. You'd need RP staff to manage character applications and what not. Other than that though, finding roleplayers to play here doesn't need dedicated RP staff. Yeah, heroes was a big selling point for me as well. I can't stand vanilla MC pvp. So from what I've gathered, I assume you are against no-pvp towns, correct? What would you feel about something in-between? Like NPC guards or some other form of protection based on players having to gather resources or build power in some way? Also @Athena The Wolf are you totally against pvp being enabled in towns, and would you be willing to compromise on another solution? For the record, I don't think disabling pvp in any situation is a good idea. Its unimmersive and can be too easily abused.

So can I ask you why you play on Atherys instead of another PVP-only focused server? For me personally, what attracted me to Atherys was the fact that it wasn't another UHC pvp-survival server. It has lore, and amazing builds, etc. and while I do enjoy some good pvp once in a while, it gets old if all you do is fight for no reason. The only reason I didn't ever really get started here is because there server was always so inactive while I was around so there was nothing to do. So I'd argue that as a sometimes pvper/builder, having a town would be pretty boring and pointless without roleplayers being around.

But you can still RP even without non-pvp areas, no?

@Athena The Wolf @JupiterRome You two seem to be the most invested in the argument. If you don't mind me asking, can you tell me what changes would make you content to continue playing on the server? I'm just a little confused about what exactly is being argued here.

There is another server I know of that seems to be going through the same problem regarding pvp and rp. I won't say the name but it is very similar to this one. The difference with that server though is that there are pvp worlds with towns and then there is one world were people go to rp. You can't build a town in that world but there is no pvp in it. I'm not a fan of having the role players and pvpers segregated like that because in my opinion, it just causes division on the server and makes one aspect feel more or less important than the other. On the other hand, a lot of the role players on that server would never have stuck around and supported the server had that separate world not existed so Its kind of a tough situation. I don't personally roleplay, and I'm not hugely into PvP but I think both sides have a place on the server, we just have to find the right fit. I honestly think that without either group, the world would not be as fun to play in. You guys might want to look into ways of making the world feel more dynamic and reactive, and give players more opportunities to create their own stories if you want to get an advantage over other RP-PVP servers. I like the idea of having player lore on the website but there needs to be more than that if you are going to draw attention and have rpers actually try to survive. Maybe have some kind of random quest system or nation/town progression. Maybe even player-created nations down the line? Something to think about.

That reminds me. Are ender pearls going to be enabled? Because building high walls does nothing if someone can simply teleport over them.
