Event 2 : Disappearances In the port city of Virion Alesce, five heroes met by chance and exchanged stories over drinks before parting their separate ways. None chose to stay the night, as each had their own destinations and adventures to be had, but in the moonless night a sudden scream was heard. No blood to be found, no signs of struggle; whoever it was simply.... vanished. This is not the first occurrence according to the locals, who rarely choose to venture into the wilderness and abandoned mines, but it is the first time such an incident has been brought to the attention of the Mage's Guild. With the recent activities involving planar breaches in Northwest Ithero; we need to properly investigate this disappearance. Virion Alescce and its Warps are now open! Warps can be accessed from any Capital City for 100 yora. Or you can sail to it at coordinates : 9480, 10900 According to witnesses, each hero at the pub drank something different, and they had either 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 rounds of that drink. No hero had the same amount of drinks. Each hero was also seen carrying a different weapon. Your task for this puzzle is to identify the following : What each of the five heroes' drink of choice was How many drinks did they have (1, 2, 3, 4 or 5) What weapon they carried. Who disappeared? THE HEROES There were Five heroes partaking in merriment that evening. Theobald Whistwallow (Male) : An Alor noble known for traversing the world slaying all manner of "dragons". Although his tales may be bravado, his bravery and ability should not go underestimated! Helghrian Toharus (Male) : The man who took two-dozen; modern politician and slayer of undead throughout the Laoner of Roreg Logh. Much like Theobald, he refuses to allow age to deter his adventures. Ahlanna Jharov (Female) : A scholar of the Rubious Lantern and associate of the Arcane College, Ahlanna Jharov has bridged many gaps between the Vrovonic clans; earning entry to Northern Bravnikh territory and the sacred grounds of the Ghost Wall. Yai'vasa yav-Hashirem (Female) : Treasure hunter, tomb robber, and gem trader; she has been deeply involved in Selukkite politics for the last thirty years. Although not a member of the courts of Qhul Rahav, her power and influence stretch well within the walls of the city. Corrigan Broad (Male) : Alcoholic, collegiate dropout, yet one of the sharpest minds that sail the seas of A'therys. Seeing the world in his own way, the wily pirate has seen many an adventure over the past two decades. THE WEAPONS Locals were on edge during the entire evening, as the heroes were far from non-threatening with their bragging and brandished weapons. One leaned upon a Scepter, one kept a hand constantly upon their Battle-Axe, another one had a loaded Crossbow that nearly fired into the dart-board in jest, one hero kept pointing out towards people of interest with a Longspear, and the last hero had a massive Broadsword strapped to their back. The moon hung sullenly above the Azdovich Forest. Its silver light pierced the canopy, illuminating a clearing where two men were camping and speaking quietly to one another. The camp itself was set up for easy defense. There was a tent near the fire, a pile of wood to keep the small blaze going throughout the night, and several weapons lying within easy reach. Their horses nickered softly, nervous of the twisted trees that surrounded them. The pair of hunters had split their watch, and the watchman cautiously drew his bow; aiming within the depths of the woods with a well-trained eye. Before the hunter could fire, a hissing noise arose from the woods around the camp as though steam were issuing from the trees themselves. The hunter started and grabbed at his sword, shouting for his partner to wake up. Red eyes glinted in the darkness all around them as the two men scrambled fort heir weapons, preparing to defend their lives dearly There was a pained scream from his partner's horse. One of the beasts perched atop its back, digging in its claws. The horse reared up, pulling loose its tether and galloping into the woods. The hunter lunged toward the horse, trying to stop its mad charge, but the little beast was clawing the poor animal into a frenzy of horror. Kicking and squealing, the horse and its monstrous rider disappeared into the woods while the two men stared in shock. A chorus of hissings and rustlings converged on the horse’s screams. After a few moments the noise died down, replaced by sounds of the imps feeding upon the horse. Then the hunter heard his own horse rear in pain.“Mag!” With a cry, he leapt to her defense, heedless of his own safety. He swung his torch back and forth, sweeping the creatures away from his loyal mount. The tiny monstrosities swarmed over him and his partner, though careful blows kept them from Mag. Three, four, five of the beasts were cut in half by the duo’s desperate swords, but dozens more pressed in around them. The two hunters began to bleed from numerous cuts and for a moment it looked like they’d be borne under by sheer weight of numbers. Then, with one last defiant howl, the grotesque creatures ran back into the woods. He stood panting against the side of a thick pine tree while his partner had collapsed in exhaustion next to the campfire. He had lost a lot of blood from his numerous wounds, and he looked pale and drawn, his lips beginning to turn blue. The hunter rummaged through their possessions and pulled out some bandages, carefully dabbing away the blood caked onto his partner's shirt and chest. While he was intent upon this task, a shadow fell across the two of them. His partner's eyes widened at the sight of the stranger looming above them. “Run…”
So, as you have hopefully read, the Rise of the Nether begins with a series of stories leading up to the launch of the Nether Island. This first event leads to the realization that something is amiss in the world of A'therys. Something has crossed over, and it may not be the first... This is also my chance to experiment with a few different styles of events Our first event is designed for small parties of 4 - 6 (although I can modify difficulty depending on participants) To the northwest of Ithero, a series of island ruins long sleeping have begun to react strangely. Concerned, Fleet Captain Lionel Decker has arranged a scouting party to investigate the island and it's ruins for signs of occult activity. Your party is a part of this investigation, and must search and solve the ruins dangers to discover the secret within... Each instance will take 1 hour. The event times are as follows : SATURDAY, APRIL 8th: - 10:00 AM ATZ / 3:00 PM UTC - 11:30 AM ATZ / 4:30 PM UTC - 1:00 PM ATZ / 6:00 PM UTC - 3:00 PM ATZ / 8:00 PM UTC SUNDAY, APRIL 9th: - 9:00 AM ATZ / 2:00 PM UTC - 10:30 AM ATZ / 3:30 PM UTC - 12:00 PM ATZ / 5:00 PM UTC A small addendum : The event is repeated in each time slot. Dreaming. He knows he is dreaming. Pieces of a life long left behind, the habits of humanity. He can feel his body twitching from the phantom movements, the sweat making his skin stick to the sheets. The voice of his Queen; “You are but a soul without a shell in a consuming abyss. Knowing that you're dreaming doesn't make the dream any less dangerous...” One of his first lessons... He sees the lady at her wedding day. In her dress, she marches up to the altar. Her tears of happiness flowing as she sees the man she loves waiting for her there. The parents are there, standing on either side. All of them crying proud tears. His shadow steps forward, undispersed by the rays of the sun. His face is cruel, eyes knowing, and lips twisted in a grin that seems a stranger to his own face. She sees his expression and turns, all color runs from her face like a rabbit runs from the hound. Her knees go weak and her bridegroom must help her to stand. His crooked shadow pushes the priest aside and stands in his place. She collapses at the altar, her bridegroom locked in horrific fascination at the dark figure. Suddenly she knows his name. “Zark'hul...” He only grins. “You cannot marry him,” he tells her, “You are already promised to another.” He extends his fist and grimaces, it is like a dead spider, curled and fetal. The fingers uncurl to reveal the ring, its haunting aura twisting the wedding as his land twists all things. The bridegroom's face has become green and rotten, like a bad apple. His eyes are gone, eaten away by the worms that writhe there. His teeth and tongue are charcoal black, and pieces of his hair fall to the floor; making the sound of dropping molasses when they hit. Her eyes widen in horror as the altar and ring crumble to dust and ash, consumed by fires below that long ago consumed his soul. “Wake! Wake now!”, the voice again; his own this time. Danger has come within the dream, he must - His eyes bolt open, his instincts take over as he reaches for a brass sword that is not at his bedside. Nor his bed; the stick of the fiber sheets vanished long ago without his realizing. In its place is softness. Green. Green!? He stands, eyes blinking at the crimson that is not sky, but sunrise. Home...
Surprisingly, few submissions this time around; we only have three questions for you on Social and Foreign Policy, but they're all good ones! Magisters, you are to answer the following questions! After the withdraw of the Eventide, where do you see the alliance between The Daggerlands and Aloreh? In what cases, if any, is it acceptable to conduct warrantless search of citizens? A genocidal Queen ruling with an iron first, several dozen tribes warring over land, and no proof of yora in the government coffers. Most analysts believe it is a matter of time until something dramatic happens in At-Selukk. How would your administration prepare for and respond to the potential collapse of the government in Ar-Selukk? @Torval Flintcaver @Almala Gemcrafter @Charlotte Bronzecaster @Orson Tindr @Ira Ashcaster @Gilliagan Blackwind @Maurice Steelheart @Marcus Sterling @Byron Highcastle @Edwin Pickston @Margaet Ironblood
We have received your submissions; and the top five questions were chosen! Magisters, you are to answer the following questions! With Outmaw becoming a state, do you believe our agricultural needs are met and we may no longer need to focus on detoxifying the land within the Swamps of Rammat? How will you deal with the Swamps of Rammat as Magister Elect? Are there any plans you would like to share with the general populace regarding the swamps? Scientific research and engineering have always been priorities for progress, but who should fund it, and how much should be given to this? (I believe they are asking about taxes in regard to this question, though interpret it as you will ) The Cleaners have made a massive difference in the lives of those in the western states, but they are a costly burden to maintain, and rarely travel further east than Harrow? Do you believe there are projects that should take greater priority? The Swamps of Rammat have historically been a thorn in the side of progress. In this hypothetical situation; a resource has been discovered that only develops within the swamps. As Magister Elect, would you utilize this viable resource even in the face of controversy? The Third and Final Questionnaire will be in regards to Social and International Relations. As before, please submit your questions to the Crucible Gazette! We look forward to your responses! @Torval Flintcaver @Almala Gemcrafter @Charlotte Bronzecaster @Orson Tindr @Ira Ashcaster @Gilliagan Blackwind @Maurice Steelheart @Marcus Sterling @Byron Highcastle @Edwin Pickston @Margaet Ironblood
Maurice Steelheart posted a topic in The Daggerlands' Elections : 7C-268Debate One: National Industry and Commerc Greetings, and thank you for allowing my colleagues and myself the opportunity to address the issues that you, our dear citizens, find most important. Although many of you may already be familiar with myself, please allow me to formally introduce myself: I am Maurice Steelheart, Magister of the Cindeweald and former instructor at the Glassworks. I was born in a frontier village of the swamplands, studied at the University in Aloreh, worked as a glass smith and lens-crafter in Monas Rath, before returning to my home village and being elected to Magister. I have been called a Gator and a Daggercrat, but I find such terms ridiculous. I am - we all are - Daggerlanders. And we are darn proud of it. It has been an absolute pleasure and a great honour to have served my homeland in the capacity of Magister these past three years of my tenure, and I hope that I may continue to work towards a brighter future for the Cinderweald and all of the Daggerlands. Now, on to the topic for this first debate: Economics and Domestic Industry. The first question posed to my colleagues and myself regards the economic importance of the mining industry and quality of life of the miners. Historically, the special minerals and raw materials extracted from our nation have been of vital importance, and I do not see that changing any time soon. Although I am a strong advocate for strengthening foreign trade, too many Daggerlanders rely on the infrastructure of the mining industry to do away with it entirely, as well as it would be foolish to forego the level of self-reliance we currently hold by handing over such an important supply chain to outsiders. Additionally, I believe that the rarity of some of these minerals outside of The Daggerlands offers a unique opportunity to control the outgoing supply, offering us, along with our advanced technological expertise, a position of leverage in foreign trade. To more directly answer the question, the jobs and materials produced by the mining industry are the backbone of our technological infrastructure - the real resource of our country. To neglect the mining industry or the noble men and women whose work directly relies upon the mines would jeopardize the very foundation of our economic and political power. Going hand-in-hand with that is the necessity to ensure the livelihood and well being of the miners themselves. Despite the great breadth of our technologies, mining remains a dirty, labor intensive, dangerous job. I believe there are improvements to be made in safety and comfort, if we were to approach the issue from a broader perspective. The architecture of the vast subterranean cities of Roreg Logh could serve as inspiration for safely expanding existing mines, and converting depleted veins into housing or storage. Likewise, studying Sellukite architecture could offer additional insights into building in unstable regions and better regulations of extreme temperatures. Whatever is done, I feel it should be a top priority to elevate the standard of living for all Daggerlanders, not just the miners, but especially those whose labor builds the foundations of our great nation. The second question presented by the populace ties nicely into points I made addressing the first issue. It is in regards to foreign relations, imperialism, trade and commerce, and global ideologies. Freedom is a defining virtue of The Daggerlands. As such, I cannot support Imperialism or any other act that would place shackles on a people, domestic or foreign. I do, however, believe that in order to thrive we must step forward into the new wide world and expand. While we have no right to force our ideals, technologies, or lifestyles on other peoples, we do have a responsibility to act as guides and teachers as the world charges forwards in technological advancement and towards a global community, to ensure that the mistakes of the past are not repeated by god or mortal. To do this, we must stride strongly into global trade and commerce. That is the direction the world is headed, and we have a choice. We can either be at the forefront, or we can be left behind. The Daggerlands holds the greatest technological wonders the world has ever seen, and is home to the genius engineers and inventors that make those wonders possible. These minds and this technical knowledge is our greatest resource that cannot be duplicated by a foreign power. While I do not advocate for the militarized productions of the War of the Eventide, I do propose an increase in the export of our expertise. Between hiring out accomplished engineers and selling finished works to foreign buyers, we can work to build partnerships with foreign powers. By forming alliances and trade agreements, we can learn from these other cultures while creating a reliance on our technology. I would like to continue working with our historic allies, the Alor people, and expand our diplomatic talks with Roreg Logh. The universities of Ar-Selukk offer incentive to develop a stronger relationship with the desert peoples there, as well. And, although it would require much tact, I also feel that reaching out to Ithero and Vrovona to establish diplomatic relations is vital. I would like to see The Daggerlands take a place of neutrality, to facilitate a global market of trade and to assist in forging a lasting world peace. The third question put forth asked for a stance on the nature and power of employee interest groups in The Daggerlands. Ensuring an improvement in the quality of life and working conditions of all citizens of the Daggerlands is a high priority of mine. From the mining towns to the forgeworkers, from frontier villages of the swamplands to the coastal port towns, I want to see to the livelihoods of all Daggerlanders. That said, I believe unions and other employee interest groups to be beneficial in this cause. They are valuable in identifying and correcting grievances of the labor force, giving each industry a political representative from their own ranks. However, I also believe that these unions can be prone to corruption if they grow too large or powerful. Thus, I support a firm and strict separation between government officials and any union ties. While the unions are useful for making the voices of the people heard, it is our government that is ultimately responsible for our citizens. As long as they are used to represent the voices of the common men and women who keep this nation running smoothly, I believe that employee interest groups are helpful to the strength and vitality of the business environment. Through communicating ways of improving employee morale and working conditions, efficiency is also improved. The next question posited by the citizenry inquires into the virtues of each Magistrate, asking each to make an argument in favor of themself on the grounds of job creation and injecting money into the Daggerlander working classes. There are several projects that I would like to see implemented that I believe would be economic boons to the country. Though several of these projects would be centered around domestic construction and engineering jobs, the most ambitious of these projects would be support of an initiative to spread our technologies and knowledge to the world at large. Stimulating the economy internally is beneficial for distributing wealth and resources, but is still limited by the economic capital of the state; encouraging foreign markets to spend their coin in trade with us helps to increase Dagger finances overall. The final question posed in this debate regards intended investments as Magister Elect. As mentioned previously in this address, there are several projects I feel deserve increased investment opportunities. I support and would invest in domestic reconstruction and maintenance of our national infrastructure, particularly in towns further from the capital. Monas Rath has had its facelift, it is time for the rest of the country to enjoy the same rebirth. Additionally, I support the efforts of The Reclamation and would like to see them receive increased funding. There is nothing shameful about our history as a nation, and though we must prevent such a travesty from repeating itself, it is our birthright to work towards understanding the technology and to use that knowledge to advance our country. Finally, I would like to work with the West Anvil Trading Company, and by extension the Merchant's Guild, to invest in opening engineering depots across A'therys. Founding a diplomatic organization of mechanics and engineers to disperse across foreign nations is a wonderful way to spread our technologies abroad while retaining a hold on knowledge behind the machines. Those are all the questions we had time for with this first debate, but I look forward to your feedback and will attempt to answer any further inquiries. Thank you all for the opportunity to speak. May progress march ever onward!
We have received your submissions; and the top five questions were chosen! Magisters, you are to answer the following questions! How important is the mining industry to the current economic status of The Daggerlands? How can we preserve the industry while pursuing a better life for the miners themselves? The Daggerlands has been known to enforce their ideals and technology on foreign entities world-wide. If you were Magister Elect, how would you justify or stand against this stark imperialistic movement? What plans do you have for the future of Daggerlander trade and commerce? Any international entities you look to work strongly with? Employee interest groups, such as regional and federal unions, are very active in many different industries. Do you believe their influence hurts or helps employees and the business environment? To put it bluntly, what is your belief on the power of unions? Why are you a better choice than your opponents to create the kinds of jobs that will put more money into the pockets of the Daggerlands' workforces?” If you are chosen as Magister Elect, what are your intended investments over the next year? The Second Questionnaire will relate to Environmental Issues and Public Works. As before, please submit your questions to the Crucible Gazette! We look forward to your responses! @Torval Flintcaver @Almala Gemcrafter @Charlotte Bronzecaster @Orson Tindr @Ira Ashcaster @Gilliagan Blackwind @Maurice Steelheart @Marcus Sterling @Byron Highcastle @Edwin Pickston @Margaet Ironblood

Needless to say, when the Gazette said "Skip, we've an opening for a Political Correspondent this year." I was on it faster than ugly on a Quarxotl. This season's magisterial candidates are vying not only for the esteemed position of representing their states, but also to fill the gap that will be left by Ms. Genedi Coldhaven as she reaches her term limit. If any election counts, it's this one! With eleven states this year, instead of ten, a shift of power is certain to be expected! While the topic has turned off of war, with the conclusion of the Eventide, a great deal of debate on profiteering still lingers; and the focus of the toxic swamps still remains with Rammat seemingly no closer to leaving than the day the Tyrant breathed his last. Labour and industry is a hot topic, as it always has been; with several companies in the outer mining regions having fallen under the radar of what some now are calling "safety standards". While this reporter could not touch base with the West Anvil Trading Company for details, there are still memories of the Wrought's End canyon collapse in 7C-254, and the scandalous bankruptcy audit of foreign company, Blackstone Trade and Sundry, in 261. As Kolm the Witted, may he rest in pace, once said; "Memories grow longer, and wounds do not close with the passing of those who inflicted them", nearly a decade has passed with such issues unresolved, and only Astor himself knows when the kettle could boil over. Outmaw residents, be sure to check in with the policies and procedures of your newly built polling offices; and to our veteran Daggerlanders who were voting via absentee whilst Outmaw was a colony, remember that you're in a different state now!
Skip Steamwhizzle posted a topic in The Daggerlands' Elections : 7C-268You read correctly folks! After a grueling ten days of polling, the state ballots have been counted, re-counted, and systematically confirmed by the office of the Pithkeeper. Here in Crucible, a record turnover time extended poll hours well past midnight, and Market Street took to action as all merchants do, selling everything from food and blankets, to souvenirs and "I voted!" pins to the queue. Rumor had circulated that Kurrik Flint might be entering the political scene this year, but he abstained from running yet again and could not be reached for comment. With a batch of young blood seeking to debate among our finest, the state of Crucible was at the edge of its seat throughout the bitter chill of Ascension, and as polls opened on the first of Forgefire, people rushed to ensure their voice was heard! The following, in no particular order, are the members of your 7C-268 Magistrate! As they transition into office, expect the Gazette to publish statements from these fine men and women as soon as they release them! As per Title 209.A, when in transition - the current Magister Elect will retain public face for affairs while the newly elected Magistrate votes upon a new Magister Elect, requiring them to complete the transition by the close of Forgefire. The Gazette will be accepting question submissions over the next few weeks for the new Magistrate, as they debate amongst themselves; before a public debate to be held in the capital city.
